Morris Celebrates "Dalaversary"

Kelly Morris recently celebrated one year at Dala Communications, and it had a little bit of everything. She helped hold down the fort while President and CEO Leah Williams’ sweet family grew to a “family of four.” The team also seamlessly switched to a WFH model during this year’s global pandemic.

We want to wish her a very happy Dalaversary! Check out the Q&A below to learn more about Kelly’s experience and inspiration throughout her 15+ years in PR/communications.

Favorite project this year?

“All I have to do is look at Dallas Innovates 2020: The Magazine. Capital One’s Arjun Dugal and AECOM’s Tatum Lau are both on the magazine’s cover since they’re both deservingly on the prestigious ‘Top 50 Innovators’ list. Turns out, when your clients are doing amazing, cutting-edge work, our jobs become a whole lot easier. I love showcasing the hard work of hard-working people. When I return to my office sometime this year, I’m going to frame that Dallas Innovates issue. Got to leave room on the walls for future client success, too.”

How did you transition to work virtually?

“My team knows I’m very much a people person, so it was important for us to stay a team from the very beginning of COVID-19. We still have our video chats three times a week. That gives me the ‘people fix’ I need to stay productive and creative through all this. We’ve also had a few well-needed virtual happy hours. When you’re working from home, you need to stay extremely organized. My dog hasn’t amounted to much of a secretary, but I’m thankful to stay busy during this uncertain time. PR people truly can work anywhere.”

Favorite team-building activity?

“My first year at Dala flew by, but I guess the saying is right. Time does fly when you’re having fun. I’ve learned a lot from Leah and the rest of the Dala team in a short amount of time, and I can’t wait to learn more. As a former reporter, I’ve enjoyed all the writing I’ve been able to do. Here is a recent article I worked on with a client. Who ever thought I’d be writing about the intersection of business and the bathroom? I also like that our team enjoys giving back to our community. We’re all active with Big Brothers Big Sisters. We also volunteered together at the State Fair of Texas on Military Appreciation Day. We can’t wait to continue that tradition when the pandemic is behind us.”
