Morris Celebrates "Dalaversary"

Kelly Morris recently celebrated two years with Dala Communications. It’s fair to say this “Dalaversary” came fast and slow at the same time. Learn more about Kelly’s last year, including adjusting to WFH life while continuing to look for ways to highlight client innovation amidst a global pandemic.

Favorite project this year?

“Can’t pick just one. I spent most of my second year in uncharted waters, but my team and I helped our hard-working clients pivot. I love working with clients who are true servant leaders. Nothing beats sharing stories of giving back, mentorship, and a focus on diversity during trying times. Executives creatively kept their businesses going and kept camaraderie high. One exec made donuts a part of every Zoom call with her employees. The CRE market stayed hot in DFW, and innovation was and continues to be in high demand as our clients and my team adjusted to a new way of doing business. COVID-19 taught us consistent and transparent communication is paramount, and the little things really do make the biggest difference.”

What did you learn about yourself working from home?

“I can be more productive and just as creative at home. I miss the change of scenery (and the people) working from home, but I also find comfort in my 15-year-old dog, Jessie, sleeping next to me while I work in my home office. She still makes appearances on our weekly Zoom calls (see above).”

Any advice you have for employees transitioning back to the office?

“WFH taught me I’m still very much a people person, and I need daily conversation with humans. My work-life balance and my mental health became a priority this year, and I don’t want that to change for me or anyone else as we continue to transition back to traditional office spaces. My boss reminded us to take days off when we needed them to recharge. Guess what? My work improved because of it. It’s important to stay fresh in any job, especially in the always-on world of PR.”
